A hero is only as memorable as the monster standing across from them. These are the villains who defined anime, ranked.

The rankings

1. Johan Liebert, Monster. No powers, no army. Just a voice and the scariest mind in fiction.

2. Griffith, Berserk. The Eclipse remains the greatest betrayal ever drawn.

3. Dio Brando, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. A century of evil, one iconic laugh, and the most quotable menace in shonen history.

4. Aizen, Bleach. The chair scene alone earns the spot. Total control as a personality.

5. Meruem, Hunter x Hunter. The villain who evolved into something almost holy by the end.

6. All For One, My Hero Academia. The rot at the center of an entire hero society.

My take: Johan is untouchable at the top. Every other villain needs powers or armies to be frightening. Johan just needs to know your name.
