Pokémon Reveals New POKÉTOON Short Starring Gardevoir
The Pokémon Company has a sweet new treat for fans. On Friday it began streaming a fresh POKÉTOON anime short, this one titled “Ashita mo Sirnight to,” which translates to Tomorrow With Gardevoir Too.
The story follows Yūgo, a cheerful deliveryman who throws himself into his work each and every day. His loyal partner Gardevoir is always close by, quietly watching over him. Yūma Uchida voices Yūgo, while Kana Hanazawa plays Gardevoir.
There is a gentle ache running underneath all of it. Some time ago the two of them set out to become a champion together, but that dream never quite came true. It gives the short a bittersweet kind of warmth.
Behind the scenes, Yoshihide Ibata directed the short at 100 Studio, and Yōsuke Suzuki wrote the script. Yutaka Araki handled both character and prop design, while Aoi Ishigami composed the music.
The POKÉTOON series first debuted back in June 2020, and this entry brings the collection to 18 shorts so far. Each one shines its light on a single Pokémon.
My take: A story about chasing a dream that slipped away, told through a deliveryman and his Gardevoir, sounds like the kind of quiet short that lingers far longer than its runtime.
