Suikoden: Star Leap Game Gets a Manga on November 5
The November issue of Kadokawa’s Comic Flapper revealed last week that Aki Shimizu is drawing a manga adaptation of Suikoden: Star Leap, the upcoming game in Konami’s beloved Suikoden series. The manga, subtitled Star Trails, launches in the magazine on November 5.
According to the magazine, the manga focuses on the struggles and inner conflicts of a knight whose homeland has long been torn apart by war.
The game itself, the series’ first for mobile, also comes to PC. It centers on one of the 27 True Runes, the Rune of Change, and begins in a quiet lakeside village near the vast Scarlet Moon Empire.
There, the hero, son of the village chief, returns home from his first hunt to a joyful welcome, only for an attack to shatter that peace. Alongside companions like Hisui, Shirin, and Shapur, he sets out on a journey that grows from a small quest into a far larger ambition. The story is set before the first game and after Suikoden V, with a fully voiced main story.
Aki Shimizu is well suited to the task, having previously drawn the manga adaptation of Suikoden III.
My take: Suikoden fans have waited a long time for the series to return, so a fresh game with a tie in manga is genuinely heartening. Shimizu’s history with the franchise makes this adaptation feel like it is in good hands.
