One Piece Film God Valley and BAAD: Everything We Know
One Piece Film God Valley is real, it is canon, and it arrives in Summer 2027. Toei announced it at the ONE PIECE DAY ’26 event in Tokyo on August 23 2026, alongside a second film called One Piece Film BAAD for 2029. So the franchise just booked the next three years in one evening.
One Piece Film God Valley release date
God Valley is the fifteenth One Piece film and it lands in Summer 2027. Toei has not given an exact day yet. However, the timing is not an accident, because the manga turns 30 in July 2027.
Here is the part that matters most. This is the first canon One Piece movie in 26 years. Every theatrical film from 2000 through Film Red sat outside the main story, so nothing in them could ever affect the manga. God Valley changes that rule. What happens on screen counts.
What the God Valley Incident actually is
God Valley is a real event in One Piece history, and it is one of the biggest gaps in the timeline. Toei has confirmed the film covers it directly.
The island hosted a Native Hunting Competition, where Celestial Dragons hunted human beings for sport. The Rocks Pirates were there, and that crew included young versions of Big Mom, Kaido and Whitebeard. Therefore this is the strongest roster of villains the series has ever put in one place.
To stop them, Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp formed a temporary alliance against Rocks D. Xebec. They won. Then the island vanished and was wiped from every navigational chart.
The ugliest detail is the aftermath. The World Government handed Garp sole credit for the victory and buried Roger’s part in it entirely. So the legend everyone grew up with is a cover story, and this film gets to show the truth.
What fans are hoping to see
Toei has confirmed the incident, not the cast list. Still, the wish list writes itself, because so many threads run through this one day.
People want Kuma’s history, the road that led Dragon to found the Revolutionary Army, a proper look at the Celestial Dragons at their worst, young Shanks, and Figarland Garling. None of that is confirmed. Because the film is canon, though, anything it does show becomes permanent.
One thing worth correcting. Some fans have linked Oda’s recent break schedule to work on this movie. Nothing official supports that, and Oda’s breaks follow a pattern he has kept for years.
One Piece Film BAAD release date
The second film is the stranger announcement. One Piece Film BAAD is the sixteenth movie and it is set for 2029, which is the year the TV anime turns 30.
Toei revealed almost nothing else. There is no plot, no director and no staff. The only real clue is that Oda drew the BAAD title logo himself, which suggests he is close to the concept rather than lending his name to it.
The BAAD theories, and why they are only theories
Fans went straight to work on the title, so here is what is circulating. Treat all of it as speculation, because none of it is confirmed.
The most popular reading points at the capital D in the logo, which sits larger than the other letters. From there people get “Born As a D” and a story about the Will of D. Others think the title points at Blackbeard. Meanwhile a few have noticed that BAAD is simply a very Oda way to name something.
In short, we will not know until Toei says so, and that could easily be a year away.

What this means for One Piece right now
The manga is deep into the Elbaf war, so a canon film about the era that created this world is very good timing. My take: The canon part is the whole story here, and I do not think people have fully sat with it. One Piece films have always been fun and disposable, and you could skip every one of them without missing a beat. Toei just gave up that safety net. God Valley now has to be good enough to live inside the manga forever, which is a genuinely brave thing to do with a 26 year old rule. I am more nervous about BAAD. A 2029 film with no plot, no staff and a logo is an announcement about confidence rather than a movie. Lovely logo, though.
