Kagurabachi 128 Spoilers: Shiba Returns to the Forge
The Kagurabachi 128 spoilers deliver the save the whole fandom wanted. Shiba is barely standing, yet he drags himself back into the fight to keep Kunishige alive at the Great Forge. Without him the forging stops. So let us go through it slowly.

Why the Great Forge matters
The Smelting is the dangerous stage of making the Enchanted Blades, and only Kunishige can do it. If the fire dies, there are no blades. Therefore Subaru, Joji and Shiba are not really fighting to win. They are fighting to buy him time.
That framing is what makes the chapter tense. Kunishige cannot defend himself, because looking up from the work would ruin everything.
Kagurabachi 126 and 127 recap
Chapter 126 went back to Kunishige’s childhood, and it is heavy reading. His father was violent towards him and his mother. Even so, the man admired his son’s eyes and told him he would grow into a master swordsmith. He was later killed after an argument with a customer.

Kunishige’s mother did not recover from any of it, and she died soon after. He was left numb, and he spent a long stretch believing everyone would be better off without him. That is the low point the flashback is built around.
Then his friends pulled him out of it. Chiaki came to find him and told him plainly that people missed him. He had been living on instant noodles for months, so she cooked him a proper meal, and the first bite made him cry. Meanwhile Shiba and Azami simply kept showing up.

Chapter 127 carried that forward. The man who killed his father turned up meaning harm, and Shiba threw him out before he could touch anyone. In the present day, Kunishige began forging while Subaru covered him. Shiba, however, was sealed by an enemy technique and left useless on the sidelines.

Kagurabachi 128 spoilers: Subaru holds the line
Subaru opens the chapter telling Kunishige to keep his eyes on the blades. He promises the fire will not go out while he is breathing. Masumi notices something interesting though. Subaru is more exhausted than Kunishige, because he has not slept in two days with his sorcery running the whole time.

An attacker throws a kunai, so Subaru flicks a wooden sandal to catch it. The kunai detonates harmlessly. Then he works out what they are really doing. They are not aiming for people at all. They are trying to cut the pipes feeding the flames.
He stops the man mid swing and snaps his sword in half. After that he offers to forge him something better than the trash he brought, which is a very Subaru thing to say.

Masumi switches to plan B
The intruders accept that the fire will not go out, so they change targets. The next thing we see is a blade resting against Kunishige’s neck. Subaru and Joji are too far away to help.
A short flashback shows a Sorcery Bureau figure calling Kunishige the real problem. He was too close to the Princess, and he ignored the country’s decision. Kill the root, he reasons, and the tree dies with it.

Kunishige does not move. He is thinking about the night Shiba saved him and Chiaki, and about how nobody ever blamed him for freezing. He remembers that he was always the one being protected. The blade starts to cut, and he still does not flinch.
Shiba returns
Then the attacker is simply gone. Shiba has a hand on his shoulder and has teleported him out. He tells the man he will not let anyone wreck Kunishige’s dream.

He is coughing blood while he says it. His opponent looks at him and cannot understand how he is upright at all, because on paper Shiba should not be breathing. So he asks Shiba if he wants to die.
Shiba is unbothered. Chop him, kill him, it changes nothing. Some people do not stop, and that stubbornness is the whole point of him.

Two more attackers rush Kunishige with their swords already coming down. Shiba teleports them out as well. Then he tells his friend that this time he is the one who saves everybody. Kunishige answers with two words, “I got it”, and the furnace keeps burning.

Kagurabachi 129 release date
Chapter 129 arrives on Sunday August 23 2026, at 8am Pacific and 11am Eastern. Read it officially on Viz Media or Shueisha’s MANGA Plus, where the newest chapters are free for a while.
Where the arc goes next
Kunishige still has to finish the Smelting, so the Enchanted Blades are not real yet. Shiba is running on nothing. Subaru has not slept in two days. In short, the forge holds for now, but nobody defending it has much left.

My take: This is the chapter that earns all that flashback time. Two weeks ago we watched a lonely boy get fed a hot meal by a friend, and now that same friendship is the only thing keeping him alive. Hokazono planned that, and it lands. I also love that Kunishige never looks up. He does not get a heroic pose or a counterattack. He just trusts his friends completely and keeps working, and somehow that is the bravest thing in the chapter. Shiba is the star, but Kunishige holding still is what I will remember.
