Netflix Is Developing a Live Action Series Based on the Granny Webtoon

Netflix is developing a live-action adaptation of the webtoon Granny, which was serialized between 2019 and 2022. Tapas published the completed English version of the series for international readers.

The story centers on Jung Sookja, an elderly woman whose entire world revolves around her grandson Gwon Yonghee. When he ends up in a coma after an attack by the infamous Black Star Mob, and the culprits walk free despite the evidence against them, two mysterious men appear and offer to train her to take revenge herself.

The webtoon explores themes of justice, loss, and vengeance through a protagonist who breaks from the typical action-hero mold entirely, which gives the story a fresh and emotionally grounded angle.

My take: The premise of an elderly woman training for vigilante justice on behalf of her grandson is genuinely compelling and plays against expectations in a way that is hard to ignore. If Netflix handles it well, Granny could be one of their stronger webtoon adaptations.
