7 Anime Monsters That Are Way More Terrifying Than the Xenomorph From ‘Alien’
If you’ve ever watched anime long enough, you know the villains and monsters aren’t there to scare. They’re there to challenge. In most anime, a hero is already absurdly powerful, whether it’s a ninja or a deity or a cyborg who can punch through planets. So when a monster shows up, it’s not just a plot device. It’s a creature designed to push the protagonist to their limit, a moment that ultimately becomes the emotional and physical climax of the story. Anime monsters are fast, brutal, clever, experienced, and sometimes even disturbingly philosophical.
Like your average Hollywood villain, anime monsters also come with layered backstories, twisted ideologies, and a flair for dramatic entrances. Speaking of which, Hollywood is no slouch when it comes to creature design either. From Godzilla to The Thing, Western cinema has given us some unforgettable monsters, and few have the staying power of the Xenomorph from Alien. First appearing in Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror classic, the Xenomorph is sleek, silent, and so efficient. It’s the perfect predator, and it’s survived space, fire, and even the Predator.
But what if the Xenomorph had to face something worse? Anime’s finest nightmares are built to break all the rules. Some bend reality, some lay waste to cities, and a few don’t even operate on the same plane of existence. If the Xenomorph ever found itself in their world, it would run for its life. Here are 7 anime monsters that could easily take down the alien from Alien.
Gluttony
‘Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood’ (2009)
Gluttony is one of the main antagonists in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. At first, he just seems like a weird sidekick to Lust. He’s slow, childlike, and obsessed with eating anything that moves. But once you get deeper into the anime’s lore, you realize he’s more dangerous than he looks. A Homunculus created by Father to represent the sin of gluttony, his body contains a bottomless void that swallows anything and is called a fake Gate of Truth. There’s a moment where he eats Ed and Ling and traps them in this endless stomach dimension, and it’s one of the most surreal parts of the anime.
What makes Gluttony even more terrifying isn’t just that he eats people, it’s that he doesn’t understand what he’s doing. He’s like a black hole with legs, working purely on instinct. He’s immortal, and his regeneration is insane. Unless you know how Homunculi work, you can’t kill him. Against the Xenomorph, Gluttony wouldn’t even have to fight. He’d just open his mouth and suck it in, acid blood and all.
Akaza
‘Demon Slayer’ (2019)
Akaza’s introduction in Mugen Train hits like a truck. You’ve just gone through this emotional rollercoaster, and then he shows up. He’s Upper Rank Three of Muzan’s Twelve Kizuki, and he’s got this twisted obsession with strength. What makes Akaza interesting is that he’s got a tragic backstory. As a human, he was Hakuji, a kid who lost everything and tried to protect what little he had. But after turning into a demon, his grief turned into a messed-up philosophy – only the strong deserved to live.
Akaza’s Blood Demon Art is brutal. He can turn martial arts into shockwaves, and his regeneration is so fast it’s like watching a video game boss cheat. In the manga, even after losing his head, Akaza keeps fighting. The Xenomorph from Alien might be a perfect predator, but Akaza is built to fight things stronger than himself. Plus, his speed would let him dodge acid blood splashes mid-combat. Honestly, Akaza would treat the Xenomorph like a warm-up and then crush it for not being strong enough to evolve.
Armored Titan
‘Attack on Titan’ (2013)
From the moment Reiner’s Armored Titan smashes through Wall Maria in Attack on Titan, you know he means business. He’s a monster, yes, but he’s also a soldier with serious mental baggage. Reiner has been living a double life, pretending to be a loyal comrade while secretly working for Marley. When he transforms, his Titan form is covered in plates that make him indestructible. He’s used for missions like breaking walls, absorbing heavy hits, and charging through enemy lines.
Attack on Titan is all about survival and betrayal, and Reiner is constantly at war with himself. But the Armored Titan has taken hits from cannons, swords, and even other Titans. His armor can block anything, and he’s got battlefield experience that makes him way more strategic than he looks. Considering the amount of horrific acts he’s committed, against the Xenomorph he wouldn’t even blink. The acid blood might be a problem, but the Armored Titan would crush the alien before it could do real damage.
Elder Centipede
‘One Punch Man’ (2015)
A walking natural disaster of sorts, Elder Centipede is a Dragon-level threat in One Punch Man, and when he shows up, it is wild. Towering over buildings with a body that stretches several blocks, he’s like a freight train covered in armor. Elder Centipede is part of the Monster Association, but unlike other, more talkative villains, he is all about destruction. He has fought S-Class heroes like Bang, Bomb, and Genos, and even after taking hits, he just gets bigger.
The anime’s plot revolves around heroes trying to keep up with increasingly absurd threats, and Elder Centipede is one of the few who actually makes you wonder if anyone besides Saitama can stop him. Especially because he tanked Genos’s Spiral Incineration Cannon and walked away like it was nothing. A fight between Elder Centipede and Xenomorph would be interesting, because the alien’s stealth and acid blood would fall short against the monster’s ability to tunnel underground, burst through even steel, and turn anything into rubble.
Zodd the Immortal
‘Berserk’ (1997)
In Berserk, Zodd is known as Nosferatu Zodd, a battlefield demon who has been slaughtering soldiers for over 300 years now. When he first appears, he is disguised as a hulking mercenary. But once provoked, he transforms into a horned beast with wings and claws that are utterly breathtaking and just as terrifying. Additionally, Zodd only respects warriors who can survive him, which is why his rivalry with Guts is so intense.
The anime itself is dark, brutal, and full of existential dread, and Zodd fits right in as a reminder that some monsters aren’t meant to be understood. If you’re a fan of Berserk, you know that his monstrous acts are legendary. He’s wiped out entire platoons, torn through castles, and fought the Skull Knight. In a fight against the Xenomorph, Zodd would be an ideal match. The alien’s agility wouldn’t help when Zodd can fly, regenerate, and slice through armor like butter. After all, Zodd has been hunting for centuries, and he’s never met a beast he could not break.
Neferpitou (Chimera Ant Royal Guard)
‘Hunter x Hunter’ (2011)
Neferpitou is an eerily calm monster, and it makes your skin crawl with dread. As one of the Chimera Ant King’s Royal Guards in Hunter x Hunter, Pitou is a cat-like humanoid with insane strength, speed, and Nen abilities. They are introduced during the Chimera Ant arc, which is already one of the darkest storylines in the series. Pitou is loyal to Meruem, and they will kill without hesitation if it means protecting them. Their aura alone is enough to paralyze seasoned Hunters, and they have the ability to manipulate corpses too.
When Pitou enters the scene, the tone of Hunter x Hunter shifts and the anime isn’t so adventurous anymore. Pitou’s most monstrous moment is probably the death of Kite. After killing him, they reanimate his body and use it like a puppet. It’s the level of disrespect and control that’s so chilling to watch. Pitou would definitely dominate the Xenomorph and with their heightened slices, they would slice the alien apart before it even got close.
Kurama (Nine-Tails)
‘Naruto’ (2002)
Kurama, the Nine-Tailed Fox, is one of the most iconic beasts in all of anime, and it’s not only because he’s massive and destructive. In Naruto, Kurama attacked and nearly destroyed the Hidden Leaf Village. After the battle, the Fourth Hokage sealed it inside his infant son, Naruto Uzumaki. Which is why, early on, he’s more of a threat than an ally, constantly trying to take control of Naruto and wreak havoc. But as the series progresses, their relationship evolves from hostile to cooperative.
By Shippuden and into Baruto, Karuma’s chakra is central to some of the most intense battles in the series, including the Fourth Great Ninja War and the fight against Kaguya. But Karuma’s legacy is still built on centuries of destruction. His hatred for humans stems from being treated like a weapon, and that bitterness made him a feared being in the ninja world. A Xenomorph thrives on ambush and hive tactics, but one Tailed Beast Bomb would vaporize the alien and the ship it rode in on.
