10 Anime Characters Who Are Even Cuter Than Spy x Family’s Anya Forger
When the Spy x Family anime debuted in 2022, it became a sensation among the community for its wholesome humor and heartwarming character dynamics. The series’ rambunctious pink star, Anya Forger, became an anime icon with her silly antics and incredibly meme-able expressions. Now she’s considered the most precious child in anime, winning the “Must Protect At All Costs” award in the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
Anya could easily earn all the Stellas she needs to make Operation Strix a success with her popularity alone, but in spite of that success, she isn’t the only anime character with the innocence and exceptional charisma to be deemed “cute.” No matter how adorable she is, there will always be other anime characters who can beat Anya out for the honor of being anime’s cutest character.
Okarun’s Pure Heart Wins him Infinite Points in Dandadan
Dandadan’s Ken Takakura, dubbed “Okarun” by his equally delightful romantic interest, is a boy who has done absolutely no wrong. He’s quiet, polite, and possesses an almost unhealthy obsession with the paranormal — in other words, he is a complete dork who means no one any harm. He’s been relentlessly bullied and dismissed, but Okarun has remained kind and only wishes for friends to share his happiness with.
Okarun also tries his best to overcome his own timidness and insecurities in order to win over Momo Ayase, completely unaware that he’s already stolen her heart just by being himself. And even though he does get jealous when there’s competition for her love, Okarun doesn’t allow his feelings to dim the kind of person he is. Okarun isn’t perfect, but his heart remains golden, and his protectiveness over Momo never stops being endearing.
My Hero Academia’s Eri Deserves All the Love in the World
Eri is a small girl with a powerful Quirk who debuted in Episode 66 of My Hero Academia. She was first seen as an innocent child who was abused and exploited by Kai Chisaki because of her abilities. Of course, the audience couldn’t help but sympathize with her and rejoice when she was finally given her freedom and placed in a loving home with Aizawa and the U.A. students.
Because of how hard Eri’s life had previously been and how innocent she is in the twisted world of heroes and villains, the audience grows to want nothing but good things for her. Fortunately, Eri has become the surrogate younger sister of every student in Class 1-A, and now she’s surrounded by the love and warmth that had previously been missing from her life. Eri is not seen often, but when she does appear in the series, she immediately brightens the mood.
Hinata Hyuga Became the Loveliest Soul in Naruto
Hinata Hyuga is the soft-spoken and devoted wife of Naruto Uzumaki, the main hero of Masashi Kishimoto’s hit shonen series Naruto. Before that, however, Hinata was just a quiet girl with a shyness so severe that it took years for her to gain the courage to confess to the love of her life, and she did so in the most iconic way.
Hinata is often mistaken as a weak heroine, and though her story could use a few improvements, she still proved to be a powerful shinobi. On the battlefield, she maintains a fierce elegance that her peers have struggled to achieve. Hinata’s perseverance has helped her blossom from the frightened girl she once was into a truly lovable kind of heroine who deserved the happy ending she was given.
Sypha Belnades Is Castlevania’s Most Pure-Hearted Character
Netflix’s Castlevania might be the last series anyone would look for when it comes to cute characters. The series is relentless with its gore, there’s death around every corner, and not one character in the cast is purely innocent. Still, in spite of the tragedy that surrounds her and her willingness to behead any person she deems evil, Sypha Belnades somehow manages to bring a touch of wholesomeness to a series where swearing comes just as easy as breathing.
Sypha isn’t childish, nor is she immature, but she functions as the ray of sunshine that Castlevania’s morbid tone needs. She’s playful and bright, even when the situation is dire. There’s also just something about how voice actress Alejandra Reynoso puts into her performance as Sypha that just increases the character’s overall charisma. In short, Castlevania would be a much less appealing series with Sypha’s absence.
Kotaro Sato Charms Audiences With his Strong Will
Kotaro Sato is the titular character of the Netflix anime, Kotaro Lives Alone. The series’ title speaks for itself; Kotaro is a 4-year-old boy who lives alone, left to fend for and take care of himself. Although his predicament is quite tragic, he maintains a level of maturity and determination that even adults struggle to achieve. Kotaro’s resilience is admirable, and it’s a wonder how a child so young can manage to stay so strong.
Despite how adult-like Kotaro tries to be, he still exhibits moments of childish behavior that viewers can’t help but chuckle at, serving as a refreshing reminder that he is still quite young. Something as simple as a free balloon is enough for him to use his tenacious little mind to come up with a creative scheme. It’s also adorable (and quite sad) how, in order to adapt to the situation he’s in, he’s taken on a samurai-like persona because being a stereotypical samurai is what he perceives as strong.
Ai Hoshino’s Devotion to Love Makes her Absolutely Precious
Ai Hoshino is the ghost that metaphorically haunts the narrative of Studio Doga Kobo’s hit anime drama about idols, Oshi no Ko. Although Ai initially came off as absent-minded, her ditziness only added to her charm, and viewers couldn’t help but fall in love with her as the series’ first episode explored her character (which was much to their detriment later on). Ai’s death completely changed the tone of the series, yet the memory of how deeply she loved her children remained.
Ai was cheerful, hardworking, and passionate. Above all, she wanted to love and be loved. All those qualities only doubled the moment she became a mother. She realized that she no longer lived for herself but also had to provide for the children she brought into the world. Although her life before was full of so much strife, she endured, and she became the loving person she wanted to be.
Frieren Adds Charm to a Age-Old Anime Archetype
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is the titular elven granny that every anime fan can’t help but adore. She has a beautiful character design and a story that can stun the heart of even the most hardened viewer. Despite her size and appearance, she is canonically one of the deadliest characters in her series. Frieren’s power is unrivaled by the rest of the anime’s cast, save for only one other character.
Alongside Frieren’s unparalleled prowess as a mage, her personality just makes her absolutely loveable. Frieren isn’t stereotypically cold or unfeeling just because she’s old and experienced, and that’s part of what makes her such a charming main character. She clocks in at over a thousand years in age, yet she’s more childish and free-spirited than her pupil, Fern. She’s a legend, but at the same time the audience can still see her as a person.
No Anime Fan Can Deny How Loveable Haruhi Fujioka is
Haruhi Fujioka is the star of Ouran High School Host Club, a nearly twenty-year-old anime with great—albeit occasionally cringe-worthy—humor and profound lessons that were ahead of its time. The funny thing is, Haruhi never wanted to be the star of anything. She just wanted a quiet life and to graduate from high school without any trouble. Even when the exact opposite happened, Haruhi always took things in stride.
Haruhi is the definition of a morally aligned and likeable protagonist. She’s not judgmental, cruel, or spiteful. She’s honest, sincere, and has a pure and loving soul. Those qualities have won the hearts of nearly half the main cast and practically the anime’s entire audience. Because of Haruhi’s very down-to-earth nature, she’s never focused on anything other than being the best version of herself, and that’s what makes her so darling.
Ushio Okazaki Deserved so Much Better in Clannad
Ushio Okazaki is the daughter born to the main couple, Tomoya Okazaki and Nagisa Furukawa, of the most heartbreaking series in all of anime, Clannad. She’s tiny, big-eyed, and has gone through far more than a child her age should. Ushio’s endurance through the hapless situation she was placed in is part of what made her eventual fate in the series absolutely gut-wrenching.
Ushio is practically a clone of the mother she lost, yet takes after her father in terms of personality, although she is a far more optimistic soul. Despite being so young, she managed to see the best in her father even when he was trying to survive the depression caused by his grief. Bottom line, Ushio Okazaki deserves all the happiness in the world, and the entire anime community is willing to give it to her.
Maomao is the Cutest Heroine in Modern Anime
Maomao, the main character of The Apothecary Diaries, is a girl who takes the wrath of the world in stride. No matter how upsetting her situation is, she doesn’t allow panic or anxiety to dull her wit—and her wit is one of the most endearing things about her. Maomao is just a breath of fresh air when it comes to heroines, proving herself to be incredibly charismatic without being typically charming or sweet.
That’s not to say that Maomao isn’t unkind or lacks morality. She is actually one of the most empathetic characters in The Apothecary Diaries. She simply has a slew of other qualities that endear her to the audience, particularly her hyperfixation on poisons. Like a cat with a string or laser pointer, Maomao locks in whenever someone dangles a particularly rare type of herb or mushroom before her. It’s weird, but it’s also unironically adorable.
