Yona of the Dawn Manga Ends December 19 After 15 Years in Hana to Yume
Mizuho Kusanagi’s Yona of the Dawn manga will end on December 19 in the second 2026 issue of Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine. The announcement marks the conclusion of a series that has been running since 2009, spanning more than 15 years of publication.
The manga follows Princess Yona, who loses her family and kingdom on her 16th birthday and must fight to reclaim everything she has lost. The story begins as a tragedy and grows into an epic adventure as Yona transforms from a sheltered princess into a determined warrior. The series went on hiatus in July this year and returned on October 3 before heading into its final stretch.
Viz Media has licensed the manga in English and has been publishing it in North America. The series also inspired a television anime adaptation in 2014, which built a loyal global fanbase and brought many readers to the manga. Fans have long hoped for a second anime season, though none has been announced.
My take: Fifteen years is a meaningful run and Yona of the Dawn earned every reader it has. The fact that so many people are still holding out hope for a second anime season says everything about how much the story resonated. However Kusanagi chooses to end it, this series deserves a proper send-off and the December 19 finale feels like a moment worth marking.
