Studio Ghibli Adds New Totoro Character Pouches
Studio Ghibli has added a charming new collection of character pouches to its Donguri Kyowakoku shop in Japan. As with so much Ghibli merchandise, the pieces are designed to be both adorable and genuinely useful, suitable for adults and children alike.
The star of the range is Totoro from the 1988 film My Neighbour Totoro, whose famously round belly is perfect for stuffing with small items. His tail is faithfully recreated on the back, and a cute Soot Sprite sits tucked onto one ear.
He is joined by a blue Medium Totoro pouch, which carries its own tail detail and a tiny white Small Totoro hitching a ride on its ear.
The lineup also includes a pouch featuring the Totoros alongside the beloved Catbus, so it feels as though your little belongings are off on a magical ride, plus a sleek black Jiji pouch representing Kiki’s Delivery Service.
Each pouch can be carried in hand or worn around the neck, sitting somewhere between a practical holder and a wearable plush. They are priced at 2,750 yen each and available at Donguri Kyowakoku stores and online while supplies last.
My take: These straddle that lovely line between toy and accessory, which is exactly what makes Ghibli goods so hard to resist. A Totoro you can stuff your keys into is genuinely delightful.
