Marriagetoxin Anime Confirmed by BONES Film With Cast Comments and Trailer
Shueisha has officially confirmed a television anime for Marriagetoxin, the battle action manga by Joumyaku and Mizuki Yoda, with BONES Film handling animation production. The series is set to air in 2026, and the announcement came alongside a teaser trailer, character visuals, and the first cast and staff information.
The story follows Hikaru Gero, heir to the centuries-old Poison Masters Clan and a highly trained assassin who has spent his whole life in the underworld with zero romantic experience. When the head of the Gero family threatens to force his sister to carry on the bloodline instead, Hikaru decides to find a wife himself. His unlikely solution: ask Mei Kinosaki, a skilled marriage swindler who also happens to be his assassination target, to become his matchmaking advisor. Mei, despite having a polished exterior and the ability to charm almost anyone in thirty seconds, turns out to have an enormous appetite and a genuinely caring heart beneath all the calculation.
Haruki Ishiya voices Hikaru and Shion Wakayama voices Mei. Both actors shared their enthusiasm warmly. Ishiya described being a fan of the manga before his casting and said he “literally jumped up and yelled yes” when he found out he got the role. Wakayama said she hopes to capture Mei’s charm and determination in full. Original creator Joumyaku praised the production team at length, saying the staff’s “understanding of this work is on another level” and that after watching voice recording for Episode 1, he is convinced the anime “will without a doubt be a masterpiece.”
Motonobu Hori is directing, Kohei Tokuoka is handling character design and chief animation direction, Kimiko Ueno is writing the series composition and scripts, and Taisei Iwasaki along with yuma yamaguchi are composing the music together. The manga currently has 14 volumes available, with the 15th launching October 3, 2025, and is serialized weekly on Shonen Jump+.
My take: When a creator calls their own adaptation a masterpiece before it has aired, you might raise an eyebrow, but Joumyaku clearly attended the production process closely and the team behind this is genuinely strong. The pairing of an emotionally closed assassin with a warmly calculating swindler is a great comedic and dramatic setup, and BONES Film has real momentum right now.
