Horimiya Artist Daisuke Hagiwara Launches a New Manga
Daisuke Hagiwara, the artist behind the beloved romance Horimiya, has begun a new manga titled Koi to Yobu ni wa Sasayaka desu ga in Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan.
The series is a cohabitation romance. It follows Umi, a high school girl who is left in the care of her neighbors, the Hiroi family, while her mother is away on a long business trip.
Among the Hirois is Shoya, a man eight years older than Umi whom she has long looked up to. There is a gentle twist, though, as the Shoya she meets now is not quite the person she remembers.
The title debuted in the November 2025 issue of Monthly Shonen Gangan, and it carries a special distinction: it is Hagiwara’s first fully original serialization, since Horimiya was based on a webcomic by HERO. Earlier this year, the artist also released a one shot called Raise wa Bishojo.
My take: Horimiya is such a warm, character driven romance that I am genuinely excited to see Hagiwara tell an original story of their own. A quiet cohabitation tale feels like a perfect fit for that gentle touch.
