A Tale of the Secret Saint Anime Set for April 2026 With Full Production Team
The television anime adaptation of A Tale of the Secret Saint has confirmed an April 2026 premiere date, and the official website shared additional cast members alongside updated production details. The series is based on the light novel by storywriter Touya and illustrator chibi, published by Earth Star Entertainment.
Tomoe Makino is directing the anime at Felix Film, with Naoki Murata serving as assistant director. Deko Akao is overseeing the series scripts, Satomi Kurita is handling character design, Kenichiro Suehiro is composing the music, and Ryōsuke Naya is the sound director.
The story follows Fia, who grew up in a family of knights but struggles to match their talent. When a routine trial to prove her worth turns into a near death encounter with a dragon, her memories from a past life suddenly come flooding back. She was once a powerful Saint who defeated the Demon King, but that life ended painfully, and she has no desire to repeat it. Now that her old abilities have reawakened, she has to decide whether to keep hiding who she really is or step into something much larger than knighthood.
Touya first published the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in January 2019. Earth Star Entertainment began releasing the print novels in June 2019. The series ranked second in both the 2024 and 2025 editions of Takarajimasha’s Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! guidebook, and the book franchise has surpassed 3.5 million copies in circulation. A manga adaptation by Mahito Aobe launched in Comic Earth Star in November 2019, and a prequel novel series titled A Tale of the Secret Saint ZERO has been running since July 2022, with its own manga adaptation beginning in October 2023.
Seven Seas Entertainment is releasing the light novels, the main manga adaptation, and the ZERO prequel novels in English.
My take: A Tale of the Secret Saint has been quietly building a loyal readership for years, and the production team here is genuinely strong. Deko Akao on scripts in particular is a good sign. This feels like a fantasy isekai that might actually have some emotional weight to it.
