Five Winners Named for 2025 Today’s Korean Comics Awards
The Korea Cartoonist Association, together with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, announced the five winners of the 2025 Today’s Korean Comics awards on October 22. The honored works are Yard for Two, Rhythm and Baseball, The Long Way of the Warrior, The Unbelievable Cinema, and On the Way to Meet Mom.
The Unbelievable Cinema took the print comic category, while the other four winners are all webtoons. Association president Ilsook Shin said the lineup once again shows the range and quality of Korean webtoons and points to the creative strength of Korean comics as a future growth engine.
Each winning title earns the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award along with a cash prize of 7 million Korean won, which comes to roughly 5,000 US dollars. The ceremony is set for November 3 as part of the yearly Comics Day celebration.
Today’s Korean Comics has been running since 1999 and stands as one of the country’s three major comic awards. For readers outside Korea, four of the winners are not yet available in English, but On the Way to Meet Mom can be read on WEBTOON. That title was serialized in 2025 and comes from the creator GOMYANG.
My take: It is always nice to see comics celebrated this way, and a mix of webtoons and print shows how healthy the scene is. I hope the other winners find English releases soon.
