Blue Box Manga Gets Second Novel Ao no Hako Interlude in December
Shueisha is listing a second novel adaptation for Kōji Miura’s Blue Box manga. Titled Ao no Hako Interlude, the book is written by Miura and Nanao and ships on December 4. The novel includes a story centered on Kyō Kasahara’s own unrequited feelings, as well as an episode about Taiki and Chinatsu’s first experience working a part-time job together.
A first novel adaptation for the series, Ao no Hako Prologue, shipped in Japan in December 2024. This second volume continues expanding the world of the manga through original written stories.
Miura first introduced Blue Box as a one-shot in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 2020, and the magazine began full serialization in April 2021. Shueisha published the manga’s 22nd compiled volume on October 3. A vertical full-color version of the manga launched on the Jump TOON service in December 2024, and the series is available in English both digitally and in print through VIZ Media.
The anime adaptation’s first season premiered in Japan in October 2024, running for two consecutive cours. A second season has been announced.
My take: Blue Box has been a consistently warm and earnest series, and novelizations that dig into side characters like Kyō are a great way to reward readers who have been following along. If the Prologue novel was any indication, this second one should be a cozy read for fans of the series.
