Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Manga Goes on Hiatus

The hit fantasy manga Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is taking a break. The news came by way of the series’ official X account.

According to reports, the hiatus is being taken with the creators’ health in mind, giving the team room to adjust both the pacing of its serialization and its publication format. Details about when the manga will return are expected to be shared later through Weekly Shounen Sunday.

Written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, the series began in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday in 2020. It has released 14 volumes so far, with a fifteenth due in Japan on December 18, and it has earned major honors including a Kodansha Manga Award and a Shogakukan Manga Award.

Fans still have plenty to look forward to on screen. The acclaimed anime adaptation first premiered in September 2023, and its second season is set to arrive on January 16, 2026, as part of Nippon TV’s Friday Anime Night block.

My take: The creators’ wellbeing matters far more than any schedule, so I am glad they are taking the time they need. Frieren is special enough that fans will happily wait, and the new season should ease the gap nicely.
