Shinobu Takayama’s Comedy Manga Sakitama Nears Its Climax
The November issue of Asahi Shimbun’s Nemuki+ magazine revealed on Tuesday that Shinobu Takayama’s comedy manga Sakitama is approaching its climax.
The series follows Yoshiki Tanaka, a young man so down on his luck that the electricity in his apartment has been shut off. His quiet, aimless life is upended when a beautiful girl suddenly appears, soon followed by an assortment of gods, from the god of poverty to the god of misfortune, who turn his days into cheerful chaos.
Takayama launched Sakitama in Nemuki+ back in 2015, and Asahi Shimbun released its fifth collected volume in 2024.
The creator has plenty of other work to her name. Her long running series Haigakura, which began in 2008, has grown past 17 volumes and over 1.3 million copies, and recently received its own anime, while an earlier title, Amatsuki, was adapted into an anime back in 2008.
Notably, the Haigakura anime paused partway through its run last year so the staff could protect the series’ quality, then restarted from the first episode this past July.
My take: A broke NEET surrounded by squabbling gods is a wonderfully silly premise, and it is always a little bittersweet to hear a long running comedy is wrapping up. I hope Yoshiki gets a warm, funny send off.
