Frieren Manga Pauses Again for Its Creators’ Health
The acclaimed fantasy manga Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is going on hiatus once more. The break begins with the 47th issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday on October 22, though there is still a new chapter in this week’s issue.
According to the announcement, the pause is being taken so that creators Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe can look after their health. It follows conversations between the pair and the magazine’s editorial staff about adjusting the manga’s serialization pace, and details about when it will resume are expected later.
This is not the first recent break for the series. It paused earlier in the year before returning in July, and had taken time off the previous winter as well, suggesting an ongoing effort to find a sustainable rhythm.
Frieren remains one of the most beloved manga running today, following the elf mage Frieren as she reflects on the companions she once journeyed with and the meaning she finds in the time that remains.
Fans still have plenty to anticipate, as the anime adaptation continues to expand the story for a wide audience.
My take: A creator’s health always comes first, full stop. Frieren is worth any wait, and I would much rather Yamada and Abe pace themselves than risk burning out on something so special.
