Timid Villainess Light Novel Yowaki MAX Gets an Anime
The light novel series Yowaki MAX Reijo Nanoni is getting a television anime adaptation, bringing another villainess comedy to the screen.
Miku Ito voices the lead, Pia Rockwell, a count’s daughter who happens to be the villainess of an otome game. As is common in the genre, the real protagonist is someone reincarnated into Pia’s role, and being far too timid to accept Pia’s doomed fate of banishment, she sets out to cancel her engagement and quietly become a curator instead.
Her plan hits a snag in the form of her fiance, Rufus Stan, voiced by Ryota Osaka. Rather than letting the engagement go, he draws Pia into a bet, which promises plenty of comedic back and forth between the two.
The novels are written by Hiro Oda with illustrations by Tsubasa.v, published by Kadokawa under its B’s-LOG Bunko label. The series began as a web novel in early 2020 and has since grown to seven volumes, along with a manga adaptation.
My take: A nervous villainess just trying to dodge her bad ending is such a likable hook, and the bet with her fiance should keep things lively. I am always happy to see another cozy villainess comedy join the lineup.
