Firefly Wedding Manga Enters Its Final Arc on October 20
Shogakukan’s Manga ONE app revealed on October 6 that Oreco Tachibana’s manga Firefly Wedding, known in Japanese as Hotaru no Yomeiri, will begin its final arc in its next chapter on October 20.
The series is published in English digitally by both Comikey and Viz Media, and Viz also releases it in print, with the fourth volume arriving this week.
Firefly Wedding is a tense Meiji era romance. Satoko, a noblewoman living with a heart condition, is determined to arrange a marriage that will help her family before her time runs out. Her plans are thrown into chaos when she is targeted by a mysterious assassin named Shinpei.
In a desperate bid to stay alive, Satoko proposes to her would be killer. She does not mean it, but Shinpei, it turns out, loves just as fiercely as he kills, leaving her scrambling to escape an engagement she never wanted.
The manga began on Manga ONE in 2022, recently reached its ninth volume, and earned a Best Shōjo Manga nomination at the Kodansha Manga Awards. Tachibana is also known for the earlier hit Promise Cinderella.
My take: A doomed noblewoman accidentally winning the heart of her own assassin is such a deliciously dramatic hook. I am eager and a little nervous to see how Tachibana brings this tense romance in for a landing.
