Code Vein II Story Trailer Sets January 30 Launch
Bandai Namco Entertainment America gave fans a fuller look at its upcoming sequel on Thursday, streaming a story trailer for Code Vein II. It follows the original Code Vein, a post apocalyptic role playing game with a devoted following.
The sequel arrives on January 30, or January 29 in Japan, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
As Bandai Namco tells it, Code Vein II is a story of characters bound together by blood, fate, and destiny, set in a future where the last of humanity and beings called Revenants fight to survive a collapsing world. A threat known as the Luna Rapacis has driven many Revenants mad, twisting them into monstrous creatures called Horrors.
You play a Revenant Hunter guided by a mysterious girl named Lou, who can travel into the past to rewrite the fate of the world. By stepping into key moments of history, you alter certain Revenants’ destinies and uncover hidden truths meant to save the future. In battle, blood drained from enemies unlocks skills and Blood codes, you wield special weapons and gear called Jails, and you bond with Partner allies, each with their own abilities and ties to the story.
The first Code Vein launched in Japan in September 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, after a delay from its original 2018 window. Studio ufotable animated its opening cinematic, the band VAMPS performed the opening song “Underworld,” and a manga adaptation by Kotoni Shiroishi ran in Kadokawa’s Dengeki PlayStation magazine starting in June 2018.
My take: Time travel woven directly into the combat and the story is an ambitious idea, and if the sequel keeps that gorgeous ufotable flavored style, Code Vein II could be something special.
