Firefighter Daigo: Rescuer in Orange Manga Goes on Hiatus

The November issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine revealed on Monday that Masahito Soda and Kuro Tomiyama’s manga Firefighter Daigo: Rescuer in Orange is going on an indefinite hiatus. The magazine says it will announce a return date at a later point.

The series has had a stop and start rhythm of late. It wrapped up its first part in February 2024, paused for a time, and then came back with a second part that May.

Soda and Tomiyama launched the manga in 2020, and it has since reached a dozen volumes while earning a nomination for Best Shonen Manga at the Kodansha Manga Awards.

It has also been a hit on screen, with an anime adaptation that premiered in 2023 and continued into a second cours, streamed internationally by Crunchyroll.

This news arrives around the same time that Soda and Tomiyama revealed a brand new, unrelated manga project on the way, so the pair clearly have plenty in the works.

My take: Indefinite hiatuses are always a little worrying, and I hope the creators are simply taking the time they need. Firefighter Daigo has been a tense, big hearted series, and I would gladly wait for its return.
