CyberAgent Launches Studio Kurm to Grow Its Anime Production
CyberAgent has opened a new animation studio called Studio Kurm, the latest sign of the company’s deepening commitment to anime.
The Tokyo studio is led by veteran producer Maiko Okada, known for her work on Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress and Ranking of Kings. It will take on both original projects and adaptations, strengthening CyberAgent’s footing in an increasingly competitive industry.
By building production resources in-house, the company hopes to gain more control over scheduling, creative output, and the long term development of its intellectual property. It is a pattern seen across the industry as firms invest directly in studios to ease chronic capacity bottlenecks.
Okada framed the studio’s mission around maximizing the value of creators, offering younger talent better opportunities and fairer pay, while openly acknowledging the worsening production conditions that the industry needs to address. Acclaimed animator Yoshimichi Kameda, celebrated for Mob Psycho 100, joins as creative lead in January 2026.
My take: What stands out to me is the talk of fairer returns and better conditions for animators. The industry’s overwork problems are well documented, so a studio that puts creator welfare front and center is something I genuinely want to root for.
