The Journey of Elaina Anime Gets New Illustration Ahead of 5th Anniversary
2020’s Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina TV anime has received a newly drawn illustration of the titular Elaina in advance of its upcoming fifth anniversary.
The illustration shows the witch looking up from a book while seated on a stool, her broom and bag nearby. A teaser for the artwork zoomed in onto Elaina’s bare right foot, which rests on the edge of the stool with its heel.
The visual also teases, “The journey continues… a new project is underway!”
For now, it’s best not to jump the gun and expect a new anime. What’s certain is that there are plans in store to commemorate Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina‘s fifth anniversary, and that a local rebroadcast of the series and a limited-time revival of the program The Radio of Elaina have been announced. A public recording event for the latter will also be held.
Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina originally aired during the Fall 2020 anime season. An adaptation of the SB Creative-published light novel series by Jogi Shiraishi (with illustrations by Azure), it follows the titular character as she gets involved with various people and situations during her travels around the world (a general premise that’s similar to the older Kino’s Journey series, sans the witch aspect).
C2C produced the anime, which was directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka (Shangri-la Frontier, Harukana Receive) and featured character designs from Takeshi Oda (Otaku Elf). Kaede Hondo starred as Elaina, while other notable cast members included Kana Hanazawa as Elaina’s master Fran and Tomoyo Kurosawa as Saya, another young witch who becomes acquainted with Elaina and falls for her. The series finale had a brief appearance from a Konomi Kohara-voiced character called Amnesia.

The light novel series will release its 25th volume on March 14, 2026 JST. It debuted back in 2016 under the GA Novel label. There are spin-offs, a manga, and an English release from Yen Press.
