Demon Lord, Retry! premiered in Japan on Tokyo MX in July 2019.
The story centers on Akira Ōno, a regular guy who works at a company that manages an online game. He often plays the game as his character “Maō” (Dark Lord). But one day, when he logs on, he is whisked into the game’s fantasy world as his character. There, he meets a one-legged girl, and begins his adventures alongside her. But as he is a powerful “Dark Lord,” various nations and holy maidens journey to defeat him, and he stirs up trouble everywhere he goes.
Hiroshi Kimura (Haitai Nanafa both seasons, The Irresponsible Galaxy Tylor, Danchigai) directed the series at EKACHI EPILKA (Crossing Time). Novelist and scriptwriter Ōka Tanisaki oversaw the series scripts, and Chiyo Nakayama (key animator for Robotics;Notes, Kuroko’s Basketball all three seasons) adapted Makoto Iino‘s original character designs for animation.
Kaori Ishihara (voice of Luna) performed the opening theme song “Tempest,” and Haruka Tōjō performed the ending theme song “New.”
The Demon Lord, Retry! R sequel anime debuted in September 2024 and featured a new cast. Crunchyroll streamed the anime in India as it aired. The anime received dubs in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
