Top 10 Anime Duos Who Are Better Together
Some stories belong to one hero. The best ones belong to two. These duos are ranked on chemistry, how much each half changes the other, and whether the series would survive with only one of them.
The rankings
- Gon and Killua, Hunter x Hunter. A boy who is too pure and a boy who was raised to kill, and each saves the other. Their split in Chimera Ant is the series’ quietest tragedy.
- Edward and Alphonse Elric, Fullmetal Alchemist. Two brothers, one body, and a promise that carries sixty four episodes.
- Spike and Jet, Cowboy Bebop. Partners who never say what they mean and never need to.
- Mob and Reigen, Mob Psycho 100. A fraud and a psychic who accidentally become the healthiest relationship in shonen.
- Loid and Anya, Spy x Family. A spy who cannot read his daughter and a daughter who reads everyone.
- Frieren and Fern. A teacher learning from the student she outlives.
- Yuji and Todo, Jujutsu Kaisen. Brothers by declaration, and the best tag team in the series.
- Naruto and Sasuke. Rivals first, but the bond is the point.
- Thorfinn and Einar, Vinland Saga. Two slaves rebuilding a farm and a conscience together.
- Luffy and Zoro, One Piece. The captain and the first mate, and the trust that started the crew.
What makes a duo
The pairs that last are the ones where the partners want different things and choose each other anyway. That tension is the story.
My take: Gon and Killua at the top because their friendship is the only thing in Hunter x Hunter that Togashi treats as sacred, and then he breaks it.
