Jujutsu Kaisen Watch Order and Movie Placement
Jujutsu Kaisen is short by shonen standards and has no filler, but it does have a prequel movie that people watch in the wrong place. Here is the clean order.
Start with season one
Season 1 (24 episodes) introduces Yuji Itadori, Sukuna and Tokyo Jujutsu High, covering the story through the Kyoto Goodwill Event and the Death Painting arc. Watch it first even though the movie is chronologically earlier, because the film assumes you know who Gojo, Geto and the first years are.
Then Jujutsu Kaisen 0
The 2021 film adapts the prequel manga, following Yuta Okkotsu a year before Yuji’s story. It is essential, not optional: it sets up Geto, explains the Night Parade referenced in season one, and introduces Yuta, who becomes central later. Watch it between seasons one and two.
Season two and beyond
Season 2 (23 episodes) is split into Gojo’s Past, covering Hidden Inventory and Premature Death, and the Shibuya Incident, the arc that made the series a phenomenon and a production nightmare. Season 3 adapts the Culling Game, the first part of which arrived on Crunchyroll and later Netflix, with Season 4 continuing Culling Game Part 2. Watch them in order.
Manga readers
The manga is complete at 271 chapters, so the story has an ending. If you want to read ahead, the Shibuya Incident ends at chapter 136.
My take: Season one, then the movie, then everything else. Anyone who tells you to skip Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has not watched the later seasons.
