Bleach Watch Order and Filler Guide
Bleach is a long series with a famous filler problem and a modern revival that fixed its ending. Here is how to watch it without wasting a month on episodes that never happened.
The original series (366 episodes)
Bleach covers Ichigo Kurosaki’s story from Substitute Shinigami through the Fullbring arc. The canon arcs in order are Agent of the Shinigami, Soul Society, Arrancar, Hueco Mundo, Fake Karakura Town and Fullbring. The anime’s filler arcs were inserted mid story and can be skipped entirely: Bount arc (episodes 64 to 109), the Amagai arc (168 to 189), the Zanpakuto Rebellion arc (230 to 265) and the Gotei 13 Invading Army arc (317 to 342). Individual filler episodes are scattered elsewhere, but those four blocks account for most of it. Skipping them takes the series down to roughly 230 episodes.
Thousand Year Blood War
The original anime ended in 2012 without adapting the manga’s final arc. Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War, which began in 2022, picks up directly after Fullbring and adapts that final arc across four parts, ending with The Calamity. Watch it after episode 366. It features new scenes supervised by Tite Kubo that expand the manga’s rushed ending, so this is the definitive version.
The movies
All four films, Memories of Nobody, The DiamondDust Rebellion, Fade to Black and Hell Verse, are non canon side stories. Hell Verse is the most fun. None are required.
Best entry point
Start at episode one. The first 63 episodes, covering Soul Society, are among the best in shonen and explain why the series became a Big Three pillar.
My take: Skip every filler block without guilt, then treat Thousand Year Blood War as the real ending. Bleach done this way is one of the great long series.
