Daemons of the Shadow Realm Season 2 Announced
Daemons of the Shadow Realm is not done. Season 2 was officially announced immediately after the first season’s finale finished airing in Japan, complete with a teaser video. Studio BONES FILM returns to animate the continuation.
Hiromu Arakawa’s return pays off
This was the adaptation everyone was watching closely because of the name attached. Hiromu Arakawa, the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist, launched Daemons of the Shadow Realm as her big return to long form shonen fantasy, following siblings Yuru and Asa and the ancient beings bound to them. The anime had a lot to live up to, and a same day renewal is the clearest possible signal that it delivered on the numbers.
Bones Film staying on matters as well. The studio’s handling of Arakawa’s world, from the creature design to the quiet character beats between fights, was the main reason season one held together, and continuity on a sequel is never guaranteed.
What is next
No release window has been announced. The manga has plenty of material ahead, so the wait is about production time rather than source.
The announcement was reported by Anime Corner.
My take: Arakawa deserved a hit outside of Fullmetal, and this is it. Season 2 with the same studio is the best news the series could have gotten.
