Devils Crest Is the Next Anime From the SAO Creator
Reki Kawahara is coming back to television. Devils Crest, adapting another novel from the Sword Art Online creator, revealed its first teaser trailer, visual, voice cast and staff during Anime Expo 2026. Production I.G is handling the animation, and the opening theme, titled Shinka, is performed by Ado.
A big swing from a proven name
Kawahara’s track record speaks for itself. Sword Art Online defined an entire era of isekai and virtual world stories, and Accel World still holds a devoted audience. Devils Crest arriving with Production I.G behind it and Ado on the theme song signals that the production committee expects another franchise, not a one season experiment.
Details about the story are still limited, but the combination of names alone puts this among the most watchable new announcements of the year. Ado singing an opening remains one of the most reliable hype signals in the industry, and studios do not spend that card on projects they doubt.
Kawahara adaptations also arrive with an unusual guarantee of longevity. Sword Art Online has sustained films, spinoffs and games for over a decade, and Accel World still sells novels years after its anime run. Committees remember that history when they assemble talent like Production I.G and Ado for an unproven title, and it is why Devils Crest should be treated as a multi season bet rather than a one cour experiment.
The announcement was reported by Anime Corner.
My take: Kawahara with a fresh world and no legacy expectations is more interesting to me than another SAO spinoff. Cautiously excited for this one.
