Esports Brand G2 Launches Original Fantasy Webtoon Red Aura
G2, the international esports and entertainment brand, has launched an original fantasy webtoon called Red Aura. The series debuted on October 31 on WEBTOON’s LINE MANGA platform in Japan, with English and other language versions planned for a later date on WEBTOON.
The project was developed with Japanese art director Runbel, who illustrated the Taizai no Maō light novel, and KISAI Entertainment, the studio behind the webcomic versions of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Beginning After the End. The first season is planned for more than 40 episodes, with the first five already available on LINE MANGA.
Red Aura follows Asa, a young girl who wants to become the greatest Nomad in a world where magical travelers can shape reality through their abilities. G2 released an animated launch trailer alongside the debut.
G2 has been open about wanting to grow beyond its roots in competitive gaming into music, fashion, animation, and original storytelling. Red Aura is the clearest step yet toward that goal.
My take: An esports brand putting real resources into an original fantasy webtoon is worth paying attention to. The creative team behind it is solid and the concept has potential. Whether G2 can build a real audience outside its gaming fanbase is the interesting question, but starting with a 40 episode first season shows they are taking it seriously.
