Chained Soldier Season 2 Premieres January 8 With New Cast
The second season of Chained Soldier now has an official premiere date. The anime will begin airing on January 8 on Tokyo MX, BS Asahi, MBS, and AT-X. The announcement also came with a wave of new cast reveals.
Joining the season two roster are Kana Ichinose as Konomi Tatara, Fairouz Ai as Mira Kamiunten, Manaka Iwami as Bell Tsukiyono, Fūka Izumi as Yakumo Ezo, Maaya Uchida as Tenka Izumo, and Yukana as Fubuki Azuma. Kana Hanazawa will play Ren Yamashiro, and Akari Kitō returns in her role as Kyōka Uzen. Hanazawa is also performing the ending theme song, titled Cipher Cipher, which was arranged by Polkadot Stingray.
The new season brings a different production team. Masafumi Tamura, whose previous credits include The World’s Finest Assassin, takes over as director and the animation is handled by Passione alongside Hayabusa Film. Keiya Nakano is designing the characters for this season.
For anyone new to the series, Chained Soldier is set in a world where a mysterious gate has unleashed creatures called Shūki. A special peach tree exists that grants powers, but only to women. The story follows a young man named Yūki Wakura who ends up working alongside Uzen Kyōka, captain of the 7th Anti-Demon Squad. The manga was created by Takahiro and Yōhei Takemura and has been running on Shonen Jump+ since January 2019. The first anime season aired in January 2024.
My take: The lineup of voice actors for season two is genuinely impressive, and Kana Hanazawa doing the ending theme on top of playing a new character is a nice touch. I am curious to see how the new production team’s style compares to the first season.
