Nagabe Launches New BL Manga Table About a Wolf and a Fox
Manga artist Nagabe has launched a new series called Table in the December issue of Libre’s Be-Boy Gold magazine. The series is a boys love story about a wolf who longs to be eaten by a fox. Nagabe announced the new serialization on X alongside a preview image showing the two central characters.
Nagabe’s most well-known work internationally is The Girl From the Other Side: Siul, a Run, a fantasy manga published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment. That series ran to 11 volumes and ended in March 2021. Nagabe also ran the Monotone Blue manga, which launched in Be-Boy Gold in August 2019 as a serialization of the Escalate one-shot that appeared in a kemono anthology in 2017.
Table continues Nagabe’s interest in unusual, emotionally charged relationships between non-human characters. The kemono and beastfolk genre, particularly in boys love contexts, has a devoted readership and Nagabe has shown real skill in finding the quiet emotional core of that kind of premise.
My take: Nagabe has a beautifully understated visual style and a real talent for making strange relationships feel genuinely tender. A wolf who wants to be eaten by a fox sounds absurd on paper but in Nagabe’s hands it will almost certainly become something moving and strange in the best way. Be-Boy Gold readers are in good hands.
